Water main break causes low pressure and outages; residents urged to boil water until further notice

Sunset Beach, NC — March 31, 2026,  Brunswick County Public Utilities has issued a System Pressure Advisory for customers along Bay Street in Sunset Beach following a water main break that has caused periods of low pressure and service outages.

The advisory applies to:
– Bay Street (Addresses 1402–1432)
A total of 22 residential connections are affected.

Low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the risk of back‑siphonage, which can allow bacteria to enter the water supply. As a precaution, Brunswick County Public Utilities and the N.C. Division of Water Resources advise all impacted customers to boil water for human consumption or use bottled water until further notice.

Human consumption includes:
– Drinking
– Making ice
– Brushing teeth
– Washing dishes
– Food preparation

Water should be brought to a vigorous boil for one minute to kill potential disease‑causing organisms.
