BC News Community Hero: Quick‑Thinking Resident Rescues Cat Trapped in Marina Drainage Pipe

Early Monday morning at the Marina at St. James Plantation, boaters and residents paused their routines as an unusual sound echoed across the docks – the faint but persistent meows of a distressed cat. Marina staff quickly began searching the area and soon realized the feline had somehow slipped into one of the drainage pipes beneath the walkway.

As staff worked to pinpoint the location of the cries, a nearby resident, Mr. Jason, who was out walking his dog, stopped to help. A former member of the U.S. Coast Guard, he immediately recognized that the cat was trapped deep inside the pipe and that reaching it would require more than a simple lift or coaxing.

Displaying the kind of calm problem‑solving that comes from years of service, Jason hurried home, grabbed his surfboard, and returned to the marina. He then paddled roughly 20 yards into the drainage pipe – a tight, dark, and echoing space until he reached the frightened feline.

With steady hands and no incident, he retrieved the cat and brought it safely back to the marina staff and the waiting owners, who expressed heartfelt gratitude for his quick action and willingness to step in.

The rescue described as pure St. James community with the marina team and Jason working together to bring the once forlorn feline safely back home to his people.
