State officials warn fire danger remains high despite lifting the ban
COLUMBIA, SC — The South Carolina Forestry Commission will lift the statewide burning ban at 7 a.m. Monday, March 30, after the low humidity and high winds that prompted Friday’s order eased. Officials warn that drought conditions persist and fire danger will remain elevated through April, South Carolina’s peak wildfire month. Anyone whose fire escapes can face legal consequences.
SCFC Fire Chief Darryl Jones urged residents to stay cautious, noting that dry conditions make fires easy to ignite and rekindle.
Residents in unincorporated areas must still notify the Forestry Commission before burning yard debris. Those in city or town limits must follow local ordinances. Notifications can be made at scfc.gov/notify or through each county’s toll‑free number.
Prescribed burns for forestry, agriculture, or wildlife management also require notification and must follow state Smoke Management Guidelines. To report a prescribed burn, call 800.777.3473
