Stay “Gator Wise” at Lake Waccamaw
Lake Waccamaw, NC — Living near beautiful waters like ours means sharing the space with native wildlife, including alligators. Being “Gator Wise” is about staying safe while respecting these incredible animals in their natural habitat.
Thanks to a strong partnership between NC State Parks, the NC Wildlife Resources Commission, and the Town of Lake Waccamaw, our community is working together to help residents and visitors safely enjoy the lake.
New signs have been placed around town as part of this important awareness effort, promoting the “Gator Wise” program and helping everyone stay informed.
Quick reminders:
• Keep a safe distance, never approach or feed alligators
• Keep pets leashed and away from the water’s edge
• Stay alert, especially at dawn and dusk
Let us all do our part to protect both people and wildlife. Stay safe, stay aware, and stay Gator Wise.
This important message from Lake Waccamaw officials applies to all bodies of water throughout the Carolinas.
