WHITEVILLE — Crews are currently performing routine maintenance on the City of Whiteville’s water system, including a full cleaning of the North and South water tanks. The work is being handled by Utility Service Co. and is part of a regular cycle to keep drinking water safe and infrastructure in top condition.

The North tank has already been cleaned, and crews are now working on the South tank. The process includes interior and exterior cleaning, along with detailed inspections to ensure both tanks remain in good working order.
🚰 What Residents Might Notice
While maintenance is underway, some customers may experience:
- Open hydrants in their area
- Temporary changes in water pressure
- “Brown water” caused by stirred-up sediment
- “Gray water” caused by tiny air bubbles (this clears up quickly)
City officials emphasize that these changes are normal and safe, and that water quality is regularly tested to meet health standards.
