HALLSBORO, NC — Over the next several weeks, residents and business owners may notice Hallsboro Volunteer Fire Department crews visiting commercial properties throughout the area as part of a renewed effort to strengthen emergency preparedness.
The department has begun a series of commercial building pre‑planning visits a proactive process that helps firefighters gather critical information before an emergency ever occurs.
Pre‑planning allows crews to document key details such as building layouts, access points, fire alarm and sprinkler locations, hydrant placement, and utility shutoffs. Fire officials say this information becomes invaluable during real‑world emergencies, where seconds matter and clear knowledge of a structure can dramatically improve response time and safety.
“These visits help us understand the unique features and potential hazards inside each building,” the department said in a community notice. “The more we know ahead of time, the better we can protect lives and property when an emergency happens.”
During the visits, firefighters will be in uniform and may briefly speak with business owners or staff while completing their assessments. The department emphasized that the process is routine, non‑disruptive, and designed to support both public safety and local businesses.
Officials also encouraged any business owners who would like to be included — or who have questions about the process to reach out directly.
“Our goal is simple: to keep Hallsboro safe,” the department said. “We appreciate the community’s cooperation as we continue this important work.”
