Whiteville Police will release new information Wednesday morning about the homicide of Cynthia Hansen, the Lake Waccamaw woman and fitness trainer who was killed inside her North Thompson Street business last week. The department announced that a formal press briefing will be held at 9 a.m. in the Whiteville City Council chambers, and the public is invited to attend.
Hansen, owner of Stronger Body Fitness, was found brutally assaulted inside her gym just before 6:30 a.m. on March 11. She was transported to Columbus Regional Healthcare System, where she later died from her injuries.
Investigators say the attack occurred sometime between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m., and portions of North Thompson Street and East Smith Street were closed for much of the day as officers and SBI agents searched for evidence.
Whiteville Police Chief Paul Rockenbach said the department will use Wednesday’s briefing to provide updated details on the investigation, which remains active and ongoing. No suspect information has been released publicly.
Hansen’s death has shaken the Whiteville and Lake Waccamaw communities, where she was widely known as a fitness coach and small‑business owner.
The press conference will be the first formal update from WPD since the day of the homicide.
