Brunswick Community College is once again headed to the national stage. The Dolphins men’s basketball team has earned the No. 19 seed in the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship, returning to Hutchinson, Kansas, for the second straight year.

BCC (28–5) will open tournament play on Saturday at 8 p.m. CST, facing No. 14 seed Gulf Coast State. The game will stream live on ESPN+.

The national berth caps a dominant postseason run for the Dolphins, who entered the playoffs ranked No. 20 in the NJCAA final poll after navigating one of the toughest schedules in the region. BCC surged through the Region 10 Division I Atlantic District Tournament, winning three games by an average of 21 points.

Their championship victory came in convincing fashion, a 90–76 win over top‑seeded Gaston College, securing the program’s second straight Atlantic District title and its third since 2021.

The success continues a remarkable era under Head Coach Walter Shaw, now in his 26th season. Shaw, who has amassed 524 career wins, has led the Dolphins to all four of their national tournament appearances and five Region 10 Tournament titles.

This year’s squad has embraced the motto “Strength in Numbers,” relying on depth and balance rather than a single star. The Dolphins average 94 points per game, with ten players scoring between 5 and 13 points and nine different players leading the team in scoring at least once.

Several Dolphins have earned individual honors as well.

  • Darius Kane was named First Team All‑Region 10.
  • Alius “Junior” Bowser and Linwood Rowe earned Second Team All‑Region recognition.
  • Rowe, the team’s leading scorer, was also named one of the Top 100 junior college players in the nation.
  • Kane and Bowser have committed to continue their careers at North Carolina Central University.

With every player on the roster eligible for recruitment in the 2026 class, the Dolphins’ future looks as strong as their present.

As BCC prepares for the trip to Hutchinson, the college is inviting community members to help support the team’s travel expenses. Donations may be made to The Foundation of BCC, with “Men’s Basketball” noted in the memo line, and delivered to the Foundation office or mailed to P.O. Box 30, Supply, NC 28462.

With momentum on their side and history already made, the Dolphins now turn their attention to the national bracket — ready to make noise on the biggest stage in junior college basketball.

Go Dolphins!
