WHITEVILLE — March 15, 2026 — A Lake Waccamaw woman died Sunday afternoon after a single‑vehicle crash on South Franklin Street, according to the Whiteville Police Department.
Police say the crash happened around 2:59 p.m. near the intersection of S. Franklin Street and Caldis Street. Investigators determined that a silver Kia Rondo was traveling south at a high rate of speed on the wet roadway when it entered a curve, lost control, and crashed.
The driver, Evelyn Young Pittman, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.
In a statement, the Whiteville Police Department extended condolences to Pittman’s family and asked the community to keep them in their thoughts during this difficult time.
The investigation is ongoing.
