Early‑morning blaze leaves two children dead as investigators work to determine the cause
Leland, NC — Two children are dead and two adults have been transported to a local medical facility following an early‑morning structure fire on Grist Creek Wynd, according to initial reports from emergency responders.
NW Volunteer Fire and Rescue stated that at approximately 5:34 a.m., the department was dispatched to a structure fire with reported entrapment. Engines 3373, 3374, and 3375 responded and arrived within minutes, supported by mutual‑aid departments from the area.
Firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control, and at approximately 6:14 a.m., the fire was declared under control with two confirmed fatalities. BC News has confirmed that the victims were children. The two surviving adults were transported for medical care; their conditions have not been released.
Authorities have not yet provided information regarding the cause of the fire, the identities of the victims, or whether additional agencies have been requested to assist in the investigation.
