SOUTHPORT, NC — City officials announced today that four employees within Southport’s Parks & Recreation Department have been placed on paid administrative leave following the discovery of financial irregularities identified during a recent forensic accounting review.
According to the City of Southport, the findings were significant enough to warrant referral to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
The city stated that the outside review was initiated to examine departmental financial practices and ensure compliance with municipal standards.
As part of the ongoing inquiry, the city has temporarily suspended its Before/After School Program. Families were notified to arrange alternative childcare while the investigation continues.
City leaders emphasized that the suspension is precautionary and intended to maintain transparency and operational integrity.
Officials have not released additional details, citing the active nature of the review. The city said it will provide updates as allowed by investigators.
