Honoring sacred spaces after repeated disrespectful incidents of vehicles tearing up church grounds
By BC News Staff Writer
Bolivia, NC — Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church on Zion Hill Road is asking the community to respect its property after a recent incident in which a vehicle damaged the church yard.
According to church members, a black Dodge Charger entered the property and intentionally did “donuts” in the grassy area. Witness reported that two passengers exited the vehicle to watch or record the activity. The church says this is not the first time the holy grounds have been torn up in this way.
It was emphasized that the property is a place of worship and is intentionally not gated because the congregation strives to remain open and welcoming to all. For over 20 years, Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church has been a pillar in the Zion Hill, Bolivia and Sunset Harbor Community and visitors are greeted with “our doors swing on welcome hinges,” but they also note that No Trespassing signs have had to be posted to protect the grounds from misuse.
Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church is asking the public to be mindful and respectful of the space, which holds deep meaning for its members and the surrounding community.
