Thrifting in Brunswick County is more than a hunt for coastal decor and vintage finds; it is a direct investment in the local community. From supporting senior nutrition to funding student success, the county’s mission-driven shops offer a “Shoreline Shop-Hop” that turns every purchase into progress. By following this regional path, residents and visitors can discover the best local inventory while supporting the non-profits that form the county’s backbone.

The Leland Entrance

  • Hope Chest – Leland: 1107 New Pointe Blvd. This shop serves the northern end of the county, with proceeds benefiting Hope Harbor Home, Brunswick County’s domestic violence shelter. It is a prime spot for household essentials and apparel.

  • CIS Thrift Shop – Leland: 117-I Village Road. Part of the Communities in Schools network, this shop supports dropout prevention programs. It is known for organized racks and a rotating selection of children’s clothing.

Southport & Boiling Spring Lakes

  • CIS Thrift Shop – Southport: 1635 N. Howe St. Often cited for its high-quality coastal attire, this shop is a favorite for those seeking seaside style. As of March 2026, all CIS locations have extended their Thursday hours until 7:00 p.m. to better serve the community.

  • Sheltered Treasures: 4831 Port Loop Rd. This location supports Providence Home, the county’s family emergency teen shelter. It is highly regarded for its furniture and home goods.

  • Dosher Hospital Flea Market: 129 E. Moore St. A Southport institution since the 1970s, this volunteer-run shop directs all proceeds toward medical equipment and services for Dosher Memorial Hospital.

Shallotte & The South Brunswick Beaches

  • BSRI Thrift Store – Shallotte: 5302 Main St. Operated by Brunswick Senior Resources, Inc., this shop funds “Meals on Wheels” and senior center programming. It is the newest BSRI location and features a large selection of modern furniture.

  • CIS Thrift Shop – Shallotte: 4501 Main St. Located in the former Highway 55 building; this spacious shop offers a boutique-like feel with a mission-driven heart.

  • BSRI Thrift Store – Calabash: 10001 Beach Dr. SW. A major destination for those heading toward the South Carolina line. This location is famous for its “Spring Changeover” events where the entire store is refreshed for the season.

  • Habitat for Humanity ReStore – Ocean Isle: 1323 Stone Chimney Rd. The definitive stop for appliances, building materials, and large-scale DIY projects.

Regional Strategy: The “Shoreline Loop”

To maximize your day, start in Leland at Hope Chest before heading south on Highway 17. Take the detour through Southport to visit CIS and Sheltered Treasures, then conclude your trip in the Shallotte/Calabash area. This route ensures you hit the county’s highest-volume shops while staying along the scenic coastal corridor.
