USDA FSIS issues Class I recall for more than 3.3 million pounds of frozen product
Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc. has issued a nationwide recall of nearly 3.4 million pounds of frozen chicken fried rice after reports that the product may contain pieces of glass. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall following multiple consumer complaints that prompted an immediate investigation.
The recalled product, Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice, is sold in 20‑ounce plastic bags and was distributed to Trader Joe’s stores across the United States as well as retailers in Canada. The affected packages carry best‑by dates ranging from Sept. 8 through Nov. 17, 2026.
FSIS classified the action as a Class I recall, indicating a high health risk where consumption of the product could cause serious injury. While no injuries have been confirmed, federal officials urged consumers to check their freezers and avoid eating the product. Any bags matching the listed dates should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
Ajinomoto Foods North America stated it is cooperating fully with federal authorities and has halted distribution of the affected lots. FSIS will continue to monitor the recall’s effectiveness and verify that the product is removed from commerce.
Consumers with questions may contact Trader Joe’s customer service or FSIS’ toll‑free complaint line 1.888.674.6854 for additional guidance.
