Two‑day marathon event expected to slow travel across Oak Island
OAK ISLAND, NC — On Saturday, February 14 and Sunday, February 15, the 12th Annual Run Oak Island 2026 marathon will take place throughout the Town of Oak Island, hosted by Coastal Race Productions. This is a large and heavily attended event, and unlike previous years, it will now be held over a two‑day period, with race activities scheduled between 5:30 AM and noon each day. The weekend will feature multiple races, beginning with the 10K, 5K, and 1‑mile events on Saturday morning, followed by the Half Marathons, Full Marathon, and Ultra Marathon on Sunday.
Full course maps are available for viewing, and residents and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and remain patient as Oak Island welcomes thousands of runners and spectators for this year’s expanded race weekend.
To ensure the safety of both motorists and race participants, the Oak Island Police Department will provide onsite assistance at various locations throughout both days of the event. Drivers should expect traffic impacts across many streets within town, including Beach Drive, Dolphin Drive, Pelican Drive, Yacht Drive, Ocean Drive, Elizabeth Drive, and Middleton Avenue, along with portions of East Oak Island Drive between SE 79th Street and SE 58th Street. Traffic will be closely monitored, and temporary closures will be put in place as needed in the busier sections of the racecourses.
