District issues new guidance following earlier storm preparations
Bolivia, NC — One day after advising families to prepare for potential weather impacts by sending Chromebooks home with elementary students, Brunswick County Schools has released updated guidance as the winter storm approaches.
District officials now confirm that all schools will be closed for students on Monday, February 2, 2026. Staff will report for a non‑required workday. In addition, all extracurricular activities including sports and after‑school programs are cancelled beginning Saturday, January 31.
Leaders say they will continue monitoring conditions throughout the weekend. A final decision regarding Tuesday, February 3 will be announced no later than 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 1.
How Families and Staff Should Prepare
- Families: Students should bring home their devices and any necessary learning materials before the weekend and ensure everything is fully charged.
- Staff: Employees are encouraged to monitor district email for guidance related to Monday’s workday expectations.
Why These Changes Matter
District officials say cancelling activities beginning Saturday helps keep students, families, and staff off the roads as the storm moves into the region. The early adjustments also give families time to prepare for potential schedule changes next week.
