Bolivia, NC — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is receiving recognition for a successful rescue operation involving K9 Tango and his handler, Sgt. John Smith. The team successfully located an endangered patient who had fled from a local hospital on August 8.
Sgt. Smith deployed Tango from the location where hospital security last spotted the individual running. The K9 quickly established a trail, leading into nearby woods before crossing an open field near the medical facility while indicating that the missing person was nearby.
Deputies stationed along the perimeter successfully intercepted and located the individual directly ahead of the tracking team’s path during the search.
Paul Coley, CEO of Scent Evidence K9, praised the team’s performance by noting that Sgt. Smith and K9 Tango’s scent discriminate training helped place search resources in the right location to quickly find the endangered patient.
This incident highlights how specialized K9 training, effective teamwork, and a coordinated tactical response can work together to bring a potentially dangerous situation to a safe conclusion.
