The N.C. Department of Transportation has rolled out a new online resource that allows residents to easily see transportation projects happening in their communities and across the state.
The interactive map, called Projects Near Me, lets users search by address, county, NCDOT Highway Division, or by the project identification number used in the State Transportation Improvement Program. Each project pin opens a detailed information window that includes a description of the work, a local map, funding milestones for committed STIP projects, and contact information for project staff.
The tool also includes filters for project type, covering aviation, bicycle and pedestrian improvements, bridges and structures, ferry operations, highways, public transportation, rail, and other miscellaneous categories. Users can additionally highlight projects marked as high public interest, those with active public engagement, or future planned projects.
NCDOT officials noted that project data may change as plans evolve. The map does not include real‑time travel impacts or traffic conditions.
For live traffic updates and road closure information, the agency continues to direct drivers to DriveNC.gov, the state’s primary source for real‑time travel information.
