Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit: A Critical Lifeline for Public Safety

(BCSO)

Brunswick County is one of the largest and fastest‑growing counties in North Carolina, covering more than 1,050 square miles and serving more than 169,000 residents. To help protect such a large and diverse community, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit provides essential aerial support using two helicopters and advanced drone technology.

Working as an integrated team, the unit’s helicopters and drones allow deputies to respond rapidly to a wide range of missions, including:

– Search and rescue operations
– Missing and endangered person cases
– Project Lifesaver activations
– Suspect searches and vehicle pursuits
– Disaster assessments
– Emergency supply and personnel transport

During hurricanes and major emergencies—when ground access may be blocked or limited — the Aviation Unit becomes a vital resource. From the air, crews can cover large areas quickly, locate people faster, and deliver real‑time information to deputies, EMS, fire departments, emergency management, and neighboring agencies.

Every mission is focused on saving lives, supporting first responders, and protecting the citizens of Brunswick County. The Aviation Unit is truly a community asset, and the Sheriff’s Office is proud to serve.
