PFAS claims emerge as Driscoll’s strawberries remain on shelves in North and South Carolina
By Coastal Carolina News Staff Writer
A lawsuit alleging PFAS “forever chemicals” in conventional Driscoll’s strawberries has raised concerns among shoppers in Brunswick and Columbus counties, but federal regulators have not issued any recall and stores across both states continue to sell the berries.
The complaint, filed in California, cites independent testing that reported PFAS compounds and pesticide residues in one carton of conventional Driscoll’s strawberries.
The berries tested were not purchased in the Carolinas, and Driscoll’s disputes the findings, saying its fruit complies with all federal safety standards.
Driscoll’s strawberries remain widely available at Food Lion, Publix, Walmart, Lowe’s Foods, Harris Teeter, Aldi, and Target locations throughout the region.
Because the lawsuit targets national distribution, the claims have drawn attention from local shoppers who routinely buy the brand.
The FDA’s recall database shows no active or pending recall for Driscoll’s strawberries, and the agency has not announced any investigation related to PFAS in berries.
The lawsuit is in its early stages, and no regulatory findings have been issued. Driscoll’s organic strawberries were not implicated in the testing cited in the complaint.
