Columbus County residents will have several locally confirmed opportunities for community activities this week, including live music, markets and family‑friendly outdoor spaces.
Open Air Market July 16 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. – Shop fresh produce, baked goods, handmade items, and more from local vendors on the front lawn of Vineland Station Depot.
Whiteville’s Music in the Alley series continues Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at 719 South Madison Street. The monthly downtown gathering features this months regional musician Jeffery Simmons, Bring your lawn chairs, grab dinner from one of the downtown restaurants, and enjoy a great night of live music sponsored by Duke Energy. The event is free and open to all ages.
The Columbus County Community Farmers Market will operate its regular schedule at 132 Government Complex Drive in Whiteville. Market days this week include Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Vendors typically offer produce, baked goods, honey, crafts and seasonal items.
In Lake Waccamaw, Franco’s Pizza will host a community car show organized by WTXY Radio. The event is set for Saturday, with participant arrival beginning at 8:00 a.m. Entry requires twenty dollars’ worth of non‑perishable food items, with donations supporting the Lake Waccamaw Food Pantry. All vehicle makes and models are welcome.
Local libraries continue their summer reading activities, including a children’s program at the Rube McCray Memorial Library in Lake Waccamaw on Tuesday morning. The Whiteville branch of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences remains open Tuesday through Saturday with free admission and rotating educational exhibits.
In addition to scheduled events, several free outdoor locations across Columbus County provide daily opportunities for families.
The Lake Waccamaw public pier offers open access for fishing and lakefront views, while Lake Waccamaw State Park provides boardwalks, trails and wildlife observation areas. Whiteville’s Parks and Recreation walking trails remain available for casual exercise and family outings. The Fair Bluff Riverwalk along the Lumber River offers a quiet setting for strolls, and Civitan Park in Tabor City provides playground space and open fields.
