Local funeral home confirms identities of mother and daughter involved in Friday afternoon accident; investigation remains active.
FAIR BLUFF, NC — A community is in mourning following a fatal vehicle accident that occurred on Friday, July 10, in the vicinity of Hinsons Crossroads and Rough and Ready Road, east of Fair Bluff.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred when a vehicle traveling south on Hinsons Crossroads failed to stop at a posted stop sign. The vehicle proceeded into the intersection, striking a vehicle driven by 28-year-old Amanda Green.
Tragically, the accident claimed the lives of Ms. Green and her 11-year-old daughter, Bella Powell. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn has confirmed their identities and is assisting the family.
Following the crash, the driver of the first vehicle was airlifted to Grand Strand Medical Center in South Carolina for treatment of their injuries. Authorities have since charged the driver with two counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle, reckless driving, and failure to stop at a stop sign.
While charges have been filed, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol notes that the investigation remains active. Coastal Carolina News will provide further updates as they become available through official channels.
