2 Years ago I learned how to finally make a proper Canadian Poutine from an actual Canadian. He told me some secrets and now I bring them to you. This is a tasty dish and there are so many variants but this is the base recipe. All kinds of meats can be added to this but it all starts here. The amount of gravy in this recipe is enough to serve at least 6 people.
Ingredients
Potatoes
18oz Beef Gravy
0.87 Brown Gravy Powder
Beef Broth
Garlic Powder
Onion Powder
Black Pepper
Oil
Cheddar Cheese Curds
Directions
Step 1: Peel and cut potatoes. Make sure they are evenly cut into fries. I used a fry cutter. Put in a bowl and cover with water and let sit for at least 30 minutes.

Step 2: To make the gravy I used a mixture of several things. This is how a Canadian friend recommended it. Empty a jar of gravy into a pot and then fill it half way with beef broth and shake it up and add to your pot. Heat to a simmer.

Step 3: Once your gravy is simmering add 2 ¼ cups of beef broth and your beef gravy powder and mix well. Add 1tsp of black pepper, 1TBSP of onion and garlic powder and mix well. Continue to simmer for 15 minutes.

Step 4: With a whisk slowly add 3 tsp of corn starch. One at a time. It will start to thicken. Simmer for about 10 more minutes.

Step 5: Heat your oil and cook your fries until golden brown. They should be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Once they are done put them on towels to drain the excess oil.

Step 6: In a bowl add 4 to 5 ozs of cheese curds and pour some hot gravy on top of them. This will help the curds to melt some before adding to your fries.

Step 7: You can now add your fries to the bowl and mix and put on a plate or you can add fries to a plate and pour the cheese and gravy over your fries. Either is acceptable. Serve and enjoy.
