FDA RECALL: Contaminated Oribe Shampoo Pulled Nationwide

Multiple lots of the luxury shampoo tested positive for Pluralibacter gergoviae; consumers urged to stop using affected bottles immediately.

The FDA has announced a nationwide recall of Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo after routine testing identified contamination with Pluralibacter gergoviae, a bacterium known to survive in cosmetic products and pose increased risk to people with weakened immune systems.

The recall covers three production lots manufactured between February 21–26, 2026 and sold in salons and retailers across the United States and Canada.

Recalled Products (Verified FDA Listing):

• Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo 8.5 oz — Lot YR010556
• Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo 33.8 oz — Lots YR010566, YR010576

The contamination does not affect Oribe conditioners or other Oribe shampoo lines. Only the specific Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo lots listed above are included.

Kao USA, the manufacturer, advises consumers to stop using the product, check the lot code printed on the bottom of the bottle, and contact the company for a replacement or refund. No illnesses have been reported.
