City offices to resume utility and tax collection at 1:00 PM tomorrow following annual financial reconciliation.
WHITEVILLE, NC — Residents and business owners in the City of Whiteville should plan for a temporary adjustment to municipal payment services tomorrow, July 1, 2026.
As the city transitions into the new fiscal year, officials have announced that no utility or property tax payments will be accepted until after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The temporary closure is a necessary measure to facilitate mandatory year-end closing procedures and financial balancing, which are standard for municipal governments across North Carolina at the close of the fiscal period on June 30.
City offices are expected to resume normal operations and begin accepting all forms of payment including in-person, phone, and online transactions starting at 1:00 p.m.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our residents,” city staff noted in a statement released earlier today. “We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we complete this critical year-end processing.”
For those who typically utilize the drop box at City Hall or pay through the city’s digital portals, officials recommend holding all transactions until the afternoon to ensure payments are properly processed for the new fiscal year.
For further information, residents may contact City Hall at 910.642.8046 after operations resume tomorrow afternoon.
