NWS Wilmington reports 60 mph wind gust threat; storm moving east at 25 mph.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning remains in effect for north‑central Brunswick County and east‑central Columbus County until 5:45 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service Wilmington office.

At 5:19 p.m., forecasters identified a severe thunderstorm near Honey Island approximately 19 miles east of Whiteville tracking east at 25 mph. The storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph. Radar indicated the threat.

NWS officials warn that the primary hazard is wind damage to trees and power lines. Communities within the warning polygon include Northwest, Sandyfield, Batarora, Freeman, Honey Island, Delco, Riegelwood, Bolton, and Sandy Creek.

Residents in the affected areas should move indoors, avoid windows, and be prepared for sudden power interruptions. Outdoor objects should be secured where possible.
