Riegelwood, NC — A Riegelwood man is looking toward a new future after claiming a major windfall from the North Carolina Education Lottery. Eugene McMillan recently secured the top prize of $1 million in the lottery’s newly released Jumbo Bucks scratch-off game, marking a significant victory for the Columbus County resident.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Minuteman Food Mart situated on Mercantile Drive in Leland.

Upon claiming his prize at the lottery’s headquarters this past Monday, Mr. McMillan elected to receive his winnings as a lump-sum payment of $600,000, choosing that option over the alternative 20-year annuity of $50,000 annually. After mandatory state and federal tax withholdings were applied, Mr. McMillan walked away with $432,063.

When asked about his intentions for the prize money, Mr. McMillan shared that he plans to use the funds to purchase a home. The Jumbo Bucks game, a $10.00 ticket, debuted with five available top prizes of $1 million. Following Mr. McMillan’s win, four top prizes remain available for other players across the state.
