National Weather Service Alert in Effect for Brunswick, Columbus, and Horry Counties
Lingering moisture from Sunday’s rainfall may freeze overnight, creating patchy black ice across the region early Monday. Slick spots are most likely on bridges, overpasses, primary and secondary roads, parking lots, sidewalks, and driveways.
Black ice is especially dangerous because it’s nearly invisible and often looks like dry pavement. Drivers and pedestrians may not realize a surface is icy until they lose traction.
Safety Tips
- Slow down and allow extra time for travel.
- Use caution on bridges and overpasses, which freeze first.
- Walk carefully on sidewalks, parking lots, and driveways.
- Remember that slips and falls are a leading cause of winter-weather injuries.
