VA issues fraud alert after fake mailers urges veterans to call for nonexistent benefit increases
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is warning veterans about a new scam involving fraudulent postcards that claim recipients are entitled to “extra VA benefits” or additional payments.
According to an official VA fraud alert issued June 10, 2026, the postcards falsely promise eligibility for extra benefits, CHAMPVA, TRICARE, or dental coverage and urge veterans to call a toll‑free number within five days. The VA says the goal is to pressure veterans or their spouses into sharing personal information such as Social Security numbers or bank details.
The VA emphasizes that it never sends benefit offers demanding immediate action and never asks for sensitive information through unsolicited calls or mailings. Veterans who receive one of these postcards are urged not to call the number and instead report the scam to VSAFE.gov or 1.833.38V.SAFE
