HORRY COUNTY, SC — A decades-long humanitarian partnership took center stage at the recent Horry County Council meeting, where representatives from the American Red Cross of South Carolina issued a special presentation honoring local government efforts that have saved countless lives.

Kara Byrd and Meggin Heath of the American Red Cross stood before the council to publicly recognize Horry County Government’s enduring commitment to community health and disaster relief. In particular, the presentation highlighted the exceptional work of Administrative Assistant Kelly Brosky, who has been the driving force behind organizing regional blood drives.

Through Brosky’s coordination, county employees have consistently stepped up to donate blood and plasma. Red Cross officials emphasized that these steady workplace donations provide critical stability to the regional blood supply, directly impacting local trauma, burn, and shock patients.

Beyond the blood drives, Byrd and Heath shed light on the vital safety net the American Red Cross provides to Horry County families during times of crisis. When local residential structure fires occur, the organization coordinates closely with local emergency services to offer immediate financial assistance, emergency housing, and logistical support to displaced residents.

Assistant County Administrator Barry Spivey joined Brosky, Byrd, and Heath during the presentation. The recognition drew a resounding round of applause from the Horry County Council members, staff, and community members in attendance.
