FDA Issues Nationwide Recall of Soft Ricotta Cheese Linked to Listeria

Consumers are urged to discard recalled Clover Hill Dairy products; nationwide recall includes North Carolina.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a nationwide recall of Clover Hill Dairy soft ricotta/requesón cheese after it was linked to a multistate Listeria monocytogenes outbreak. The cheese was distributed in Maryland, New York, and Virginia, with the FDA warning it may have been further distributed to additional states, including those in the Southeast.

North Carolina is not currently reporting illnesses, but the recall applies to all states, and consumers here are urged to take precautions.

The FDA instructs consumers to:

  • Do not eat, sell, or serve any recalled ricotta/requesón cheese.
  • Check refrigerators and freezers for Clover Hill Dairy products (plant number 24‑128).
  • Throw away any recalled items, even if some has already been eaten.
  • Sanitize surfaces and containers that may have touched the cheese, as Listeria can survive in cold environments.

The outbreak investigation remains active and ongoing.
