Columbus County ‘Day of Hope’ Set for June 13 in Lake Waccamaw

Boys & Girls Homes of NC hosts a cost-free day of physicals, eye exams, and school giveaways with no ID or appointments required.

LAKE WACCAMAW, NC — Boys & Girls Homes of North Carolina (BGHNC) will host a community-focused “Day of Hope” next month, aiming to provide essential services, health resources, and family fun for local residents.

​The Columbus County Day of Hope is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The free event will take place on the campus of Boys & Girls Homes of NC, located at 400 Flemington Drive in Lake Waccamaw.

​Organizers have designed the day to serve all Columbus County children and families by bringing multiple health, safety, and community resources together in one accessible location. BGHNC has a long history of serving vulnerable youth and families in the region, operating residential, foster care, and community-based programs from its Lake Waccamaw campus.

​A core focus of the Day of Hope is providing cost-free wellness and safety checks for children. Key services scheduled for the event include:

  • Backpack Giveaway: While supplies last, free backpacks will be distributed to children from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Lions Vision Van: Staff will be on-site to provide free professional eye exams.
  • Free Physical Exams: Medical volunteers will offer free physicals to attending youth.
  • Kids Fingerprinting Safety Station: The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office will host an interactive station to provide parents with official safety fingerprint records for their children.

​Family Activities and Entertainment

​In addition to health services, the event features a wide range of recreational activities, interactive displays, and local vendors:

  • Touch-A-Truck: Children can get an up-close look at and explore local law enforcement and first responder vehicles.
  • Special Attractions: The event will feature a BTS Race Car, food trucks, and live entertainment.
  • Community Exhibits: Various educational and informational exhibitors will be stationed throughout the grounds offering resources for local families.
