The community‑led tradition returns Memorial Day evening at 7:30 p.m., co‑sponsored by the Sisters of Southport.
The Southport Police Department will resume its nightly Flag Lowering Ceremonies beginning tonight, Monday, May 25, at 7:30 p.m. at Waterfront Park.
Residents, visitors, and community groups are warmly invited to attend the opening ceremony and any evening throughout the season.
Co‑sponsored by the Sisters of Southport, the ceremony features the respectful lowering of the American flag at 7:30 p.m., accompanied by the playing of taps.
Following the lowering, the folded flag is formally presented to the attending Southport Police Officer, honoring the department’s role in this longstanding community tradition.
The ceremony continues nightly through the summer months, offering a quiet moment of reflection and gratitude at the close of each day.
