MOUNT OLIVE — A months‑long narcotics investigation sparked by community complaints led to the arrest of a Columbus County man after deputies executed a search warrant Monday at a residence on Greens Mill Road.

According to Sheriff W.A. Rogers, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Vice/Narcotics Unit, assisted by the Criminal Investigations Division, carried out the search warrant on May 11 at 3106 Greens Mill Road. Although the home carries a Bladenboro mailing address, it is located inside Columbus County.

Deputies say the investigation began after residents reported suspected drug activity at the property. During Monday’s operation, Gerald Lamont Hemingway was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Possession With Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance
  • Possession With Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Cocaine
  • Possession With Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Marijuana
  • Maintaining a Place for Controlled Substances
  • Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Sheriff Rogers said the case demonstrates the impact of residents speaking up about illegal activity.

“This investigation began because Columbus County residents spoke up about illegal narcotics activity affecting their community,” Rogers said. “We remain committed to listening to community concerns and taking action against those who bring illegal narcotics into our county.”

The Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information about illegal drug activity to contact the department or submit an anonymous tip at columbussheriff.com/submit-a-tip.

All individuals listed are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
