COLUMBUS COUNTY — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office conducted a weeklong impaired‑driving enforcement campaign from March 16 through March 22, partnering with the N.C. Governor’s Highway Safety Program for the annual “Booze It & Lose It” St. Patrick’s Day initiative.

Deputies operated five checking stations and conducted five saturation and random patrol operations across the county, resulting in 122 total traffic violations and multiple criminal charges.

  • Driving While Impaired (DWI): 4
  • Safety Belt Violations: 12
  • Child Passenger Safety Violations: 3
  • Speeding Violations: 6
  • Driving While License Revoked (DWLR): 12
  • Uninsured Motorists: 6
  • Other Traffic Violations: 65

🚨 Criminal Enforcement Totals:

  • Drug Violations: 4
  • Other Criminal Violations: 5
  • Felony Arrests: 3
  • Wanted Persons Apprehended: 2

“These numbers represent more than statistics — they reflect proactive efforts to prevent impaired driving and protect the citizens of Columbus County,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The campaign is part of a statewide initiative coordinated by the N.C. Governor’s Highway Safety Program, which supports local law enforcement agencies in reducing alcohol‑related crashes through high‑visibility enforcement and public education.
