Five people are facing charges after a shots-fired call led deputies to a chaotic scene on Godwin Trail Saturday evening.

According to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to 110 Godwin Trail around 5 p.m. on Jan. 11 following reports of gunfire in the area. A large crowd had gathered outside the residence, and deputies said they heard a gunshot as they arrived.

Investigators say a man pointed a Remington 870 shotgun at a neighbor but dropped the weapon when ordered to do so. A woman then picked up the shotgun and fired a round into the air. The man allegedly grabbed the weapon again but surrendered it after repeated commands from deputies.

Before law enforcement arrived, another man reportedly brandished a firearm at neighbors and juveniles. He fled when approached but was quickly detained. Two additional individuals allegedly interfered with his arrest and were also taken into custody.
