SUNSET BEACH, NC — As the Atlantic hurricane season approaches, the Town of Sunset Beach has officially commenced the mailing of island re-entry decals for the 2026 calendar year. Local officials confirmed that all registered island property and business owners should expect their passes to arrive shortly via the Brunswick County Tax Office registry.

The re-entry pass system is a critical component of the town’s emergency management strategy. In the event of a bridge closure or mandatory evacuation due to severe weather, these decals serve as the primary credential for residents and business operators seeking to return to their properties once safety is restored.

According to town guidelines, each individual parcel is strictly allotted two (2) decals. Officials emphasized that these passes are non-replaceable, urging owners to secure them immediately upon receipt. The distribution is based on ownership records as of March 30, 2026.

Missing Passes: Residents who do not receive their decals by May 31, 2026, are advised to visit Town Hall in person to verify if the documents were returned by the postal service.

Contractor Access: Special provisions are available for those with ongoing construction permits. Requests for contractor decals must include the owner’s name, contractor’s name, property address, and permit number, sent to swillis@sunsetbeachnc.gov.

The 2026 decals feature a distinct blue and white design, clearly marked with the town logo and the number “26” to ensure quick identification by law enforcement at checkpoints. Property owners are reminded that possession of a decal does not guarantee immediate access following a storm; re-entry remains subject to the assessment of structural safety and road conditions by emergency personnel.

For additional inquiries regarding the distribution process, the town encourages residents to reach out via the official communications channel at swillis@sunsetbeachnc.gov
