Oak Island Sporting Goods is temporarily closed after a boat crashed into the front of the store Saturday afternoon, causing significant damage but no injuries.

Town officials said the incident happened around 1 p.m. on January 10, when a boat being transported along East Oak Island Drive came loose and struck the storefront. The driver was cited for failure to secure a load.

Photos shared by the business on Facebook show the boat lodged against the front entrance, with debris scattered across the sidewalk. In a statement, the store assured customers that everyone inside was safe.

“Everyone is okay, and we’re working on getting things fixed up as fast as we can,” the business wrote. “Thanks so much for all the support and understanding — we’ll keep y’all posted on when we’re back open!”

The impact forced the store to close while crews assess the damage and begin cleanup. Town officials confirmed that no one was hurt during the crash.

The business did not provide a reopening date but said updates will be posted on its Facebook page as repairs move forward.
