Red Cross Announces Early May Blood Drives Across Shallotte and Holden Beach

Brunswick County, NC — The American Red Cross has issued a call for donors in Brunswick County as several blood drives are set to take place in Shallotte and Holden Beach during the first week of May. These community events are part of a broader effort to bolster the regional blood supply, ensuring that local healthcare facilities have the necessary resources for emergency surgeries, cancer treatments, and routine medical procedures.

The mobilization begins on Tuesday, May 5, with two concurrent opportunities for residents to give. From 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., the Shallotte Moose Family Center will host donors at its facility located at 253 Holden Beach Road SW.

As a long-standing hub for community service and local fellowship, the Moose Center provides a familiar setting for area residents to contribute to this life-saving cause.

During those same hours, a second drive will be held just down the road at Asbury Methodist Church, located at 883 Holden Beach Road SW.

The efforts continue into Wednesday, May 6, with a focus on both Shallotte and the island community of Holden Beach. Sea Breeze Harley-Davidson, situated at 100 Harley Davidson Drive, will serve as a host site for a mid-week drive.

Rounding out the week’s schedule, the Holden Beach Chapel will open its doors at 107 Rothschild Avenue from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

To ensure the best experience for both donors and staff, the Red Cross recommends that participants hydrate thoroughly and eat an iron-rich meal prior to their appointment. All donors must bring a valid form of identification. Appointments can be scheduled in advance by visiting the official website, or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS. For those looking to streamline the process, the RapidPass system allows donors to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online on the day of the event.
