Regional law enforcement partners coordinate in ongoing investigation spanning Wilmington and Leland

Brunswick County, NC — Strong regional partnerships played a key role in a recent multi‑agency operation led by the Wilmington Police Department with support from the FBI, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, and the Leland Police Department.

On Tuesday, April 14, officers executed federal search warrants in Wilmington and Leland as part of an ongoing investigation into narcotics trafficking and violent criminal activity.

During the operation, investigators arrested 31‑year‑old Carlton James McIntyre Jr. and seized approximately five kilograms of fentanyl, around 900 grams of cocaine, and two firearms. McIntyre faces state trafficking charges and a federal probation violation.

Authorities say evidence also links McIntyre to a shooting two years ago involving roughly 150 rounds, during which he was allegedly in possession of a firearm despite being a convicted felon. He previously served a federal sentence for heroin‑related charges and remained on probation through June 2026.

The investigation remains active, and additional charges are possible. McIntyre is being held without bond at the New Hanover County Detention Facility.
