BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (April 13, 2026) — Boiling Spring Lakes Fire Rescue has begun its annual hydrant testing and maintenance program, starting along the Highway 87 corridor and progressing south to north through the city in the coming days.
Crews will flow and flush hydrants as part of the testing process. During this work, residents may experience:
– Temporary water pressure fluctuations
– Occasional discolored or cloudy water for brief periods
City officials note that these conditions are normal during hydrant operations and typically clear quickly
Annual maintenance ensures hydrants:
– Perform properly during emergencies
– Are free of mechanical issues or obstructions
– Provide accurate flow rate data used in ISO fire protection ratings
– Deliver reliable water supply during firefighting operations
Testing also helps the department identify any needed repairs or upgrades across the system.
Residents with persistent water issues after hydrant activity are encouraged to run cold water taps for several minutes until it clears.
