Supporting Community Safety Through Veteran Partnership and Advanced Tracking Technology

Bolivia, NC — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere gratitude to the USMC Combat Helicopter & Tiltrotor Association (POPASMOKE) for their generous donation in support of our Project Lifesaver program. This contribution plays a vital role in ensuring we can continue providing high-level protection and peace of mind to families throughout our community.

POPASMOKE is a distinguished nonprofit organization comprised of current and former U.S. Marine Corps combat helicopter and tiltrotor aircrew and support personnel. Dedicated to preserving camaraderie and honoring a legacy of service, the association gives back through various charitable efforts and scholarships.

BCSO is particularly proud of the connection between the agencies, as their own Deputy Katz serves on the POPASMOKE board of directors, embodying the spirit of service that defines both organizations.

The funds provided will directly benefit Project Lifesaver, a free program offered by the BCSO to protect individuals who may wander due to Alzheimer’s, autism, Down syndrome, or related conditions. Participants in the program wear a specialized transmitter bracelet that emits a unique tracking signal. In the event a loved one goes missing, our trained deputies utilize specialized electronic equipment to quickly locate the individual, significantly reducing search times and ensuring a safe return home.

Community support like this is the backbone of our specialized safety initiatives. We are honored to receive this gift from POPASMOKE, which allows us to maintain this important service for the families of Brunswick County who rely on us most.
