Several Brunswick County middle school students were left waiting for hours Friday morning after their school bus failed to arrive, leaving parents frustrated and raising concerns about student safety.
Students from Leland Middle School were stranded at their stop on Coralstone Court in the Arbors at Westgate neighborhood when the bus assigned to their route never showed. Brunswick County Schools notified families through the Edulog app, warning that Bus 337 did not have a driver and that two other buses would cover the route.
However, parents say those buses never made the pickup.
The district eventually dispatched another bus, but students were not collected until nearly two hours after their scheduled pickup time.
Parents say the issue wasn’t just the delay—it was the lack of clear communication. While some families received notifications, others said they received no alert at all. Several parents said they want more specific information, such as estimated pickup times, rather than vague messages to “expect delays.”
Safety was another concern raised by families, especially with students waiting outside for extended periods. Some parents noted that problems like this tend to occur when substitute drivers are assigned to a route.
