Brunswick County Hosts ReadyBrunswick Preparedness Expo May 5 as Hurricane Season Nears
BOLIVIA, NC — With the Atlantic hurricane season is penciled in to begin June 1, Brunswick County is inviting residents and visitors to get a head start on preparedness at the annual ReadyBrunswick Preparedness Expo, held 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 5, 2026, on the Lisa M. Thompson Walking Trail at the Brunswick County Government Center, 30 Government Center Drive, Bolivia.
The free, family‑friendly event brings together more than 50 local businesses and organizations focused on safety, health, and community resilience. As early‑season tropical activity becomes more common, county officials say the expo offers a timely opportunity for families to learn how to build emergency kits, create evacuation plans, and understand the resources available before and after a storm.
Attendees can explore a wide range of interactive demonstrations, health screenings, and a large display of rescue vehicles. The event will also feature free Sunset Slush Classic Italian Ice, popcorn, a raffle contest, and educational handouts designed to help households prepare for both hurricane season and everyday emergencies.
Emergency managers emphasize that even weak or short‑lived tropical storms can bring heavy rain, flooding, rip currents, and gusty winds to Brunswick County. With the season approaching, residents are encouraged to review evacuation zones, update emergency contacts, and ensure their devices can receive official alerts.
