Belville Board to Weigh Charter Changes at April 7 Special Meeting

Commissioners to review March minutes and consider shifting elections, extending mayoral term

Belville, NC — Belville commissioners will meet Monday, April 7 at 6:00 p.m. for a Special Meeting focused on two items: approving the minutes from their March 24 regular meeting and considering a Resolution of Intent to amend the town’s charter. The meeting will take place at Belville Town Hall, 63 River Road, Belville.

The proposed charter amendment would shift Belville’s municipal elections from odd‑numbered years to even‑numbered years, aligning them with statewide general elections. The change would also extend the mayor’s term from two years to four years. Town leaders say the adjustment could increase voter turnout and reduce election‑related costs, though the proposal will still require further public steps before any final adoption.

Commissioners are also expected to review and approve the minutes from their March 24 meeting, a procedural step that typically precedes broader policy discussions.

The April 7 meeting is open to the public.
