Dry, windy conditions create extreme fire danger; all outdoor burning prohibited until further notice
Horry County, SC — Horry County Government has enacted an outdoor burn ban effective immediately for all unincorporated areas of the county as of Tuesday, March 24. The ban will remain in place until officials determine conditions have improved.
County leaders say the decision comes in response to extreme fire danger driven by low relative humidity, dry vegetation, and windy weather, all of which increase the likelihood that even small ignition sources could spark fast‑moving fires.
Under the ban, all outdoor burning is prohibited, including previously permitted burns. Anyone who conducts open burning during the ban may be subject to enforcement action.
Residents can check the current burn‑ban status at the Horry County Fire Rescue webpage and find more information about open‑burning rules in Horry County found here.
