Local initiative aims to help rising 7th and 12th graders meet state immunization requirements for the 2026-2027 school year

Columbus County, NC — The Columbus County Health Department has announced a coordinated effort with Columbus County Schools to provide essential immunizations to students on campus this spring. The initiative specifically targets rising 7th and 12th graders, offering a convenient way for families to meet North Carolina state-mandated vaccine requirements for the upcoming academic year. Health officials will be administering protections against Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap), as well as the Meningococcal vaccine.

The mobile clinics are scheduled to move through the county over three days in mid-April

The circuit begins on Tuesday, April 14, with stops at West Columbus High School, West Columbus School, and the Columbus Career & College Academy. On Thursday, April 16, teams will visit East Columbus Jr.-Sr. High School, Acme Delco Elementary, Hallsboro Artesia Elementary, and Nakina Middle School. The final round of clinics will conclude on Friday, April 17, at South Columbus High School, Williams Township School, and Tabor City School.

To participate in these on-site clinics, parents and guardians must take action before the end of March. Completed consent forms must be returned to the student’s school by March 31, 2026. Parents interested in utilizing this service should contact their child’s school office or the school nurse to obtain the necessary paperwork and Vaccine Information Sheets. Any specific questions regarding the vaccines or the administration process should be directed to the campus nursing staff.
