Columbus County Community Farmers Market: Support Local, Buy Local, Love Local

A community tradition drawing visitors from across the region

UPDATE: Starting March 1, 2026, Columbus County Community Farmers Market will be Open every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Whiteville, NC — For more than two decades, the Columbus County Community Farmers Market has been a place where farmers, artisans, and neighbors come together to celebrate the best of local living. As a nonprofit, the market gives growers and crafters a welcoming space to share their work and gives the community access to 100% fresh, locally grown produce and handmade goods they can trust.

Each Saturday from May through December, the market comes alive from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 132 Government Complex Road in Whiteville, beside the Department of Social Services. Patrons stroll through the booths, filling their bags with the freshest foods money can buy while catching up with friends and chatting directly with the farmers who grew their produce. That direct connection is one of the biggest reasons people choose to support local and buy local – they know exactly where their food comes from and who they’re supporting.

The market’s popularity reaches far beyond the Columbus County border. Week after week, visitors from neighboring counties make the trip because they value the quality, the atmosphere, and the chance to shop directly from the people who grow and create what they sell.

Because local agriculture is shaped by weather, climate, and seasonal challenges, the offerings change throughout the year. Some vendors appear monthly, while others maintain a weekly presence, giving the market a rhythm that feels both familiar and new each time you visit.
Shoppers can expect a wide range of goods, from breads, meats, vegetables, jams, jellies, and eggs to seasonal favorites like potatoes, onions, carrots, pecans, beets, and watermelons.

The artisan side of the market is just as vibrant, featuring handmade jewelry, sewn items, photography, soaps, baked goods, woodcrafts, pottery, locally roasted coffee, teas, and more. Every purchase keeps dollars circulating right here at home strengthening small farms, supporting local makers, and helping the market continue to grow.

The market also serves as a community hub for special events, including a planned Food Truck Showdown on May 23, 2026, where food trucks from across the region will compete for public votes and the title of Best Food Truck. Sampling begins at 11:00 a.m., and the winner will be announced at 2:00 p.m. Vendors may register by contacting 910.234.3224 or selenaannette06@gmail.com.

Beyond weekly shopping, the market offers its space for rent at affordable rates and can even provide event decorating, a convenient option for weddings, showers, reunions, and other gatherings.

The Columbus County Community Farmers Market continues because the community continues to love it. As long as vendors and customers enjoy what it brings to the county, the market plans to keep welcoming, keep growing, and keep offering the best of what local hands can produce.
