WHITEVILLE — A new weekly farmers market is coming to the heart of downtown this spring, offering residents a fresh way to shop local and gather as a community.

Downtown Whiteville officials announced plans to launch a traditional farmers market at Vineland Depot, featuring locally grown produce, flowers, honey, baked goods, and other farm‑made items. The market is expected to operate on Thursday evenings, creating a new weekday option for shoppers and visitors.

City staff say the goal is to highlight the region’s agricultural talent while activating one of downtown’s most historic and visible spaces.

“This market is designed to showcase local growers and makers while giving families a welcoming place to spend time together,” the announcement said.

Organizers emphasized that the new market is not affiliated with the Columbus County Farmers Market, noting that the two will operate on different days to avoid overlap and ensure both can thrive.

More details — including opening day, vendor lists, and operating hours — will be released in the coming weeks. Anyone interested in participating as a vendor is encouraged to contact Downtown Development staff at mward@ci.whiteville.nc.us or ecross@ci.whiteville.nc.us.

City officials say they are “excited to kick this market off very soon” as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen downtown activity and support local agriculture.
