RECALL: More than 1.7 million attic stairway ladders have been recalled nationwide after reports of spreader bolts breaking during use, creating a serious fall hazard. The recall includes Louisville, Featherlite, Lite & Century branded ladders equipped with gas struts.
Federal safety officials confirm 11 bolt‑failure incidents, including one injury involving the neck, head and back.
The ladders were sold at Home Depot, Lowe’s, Do It Best, Orgill, Amazon, and other retailers between November 2012 and July 2026.
Owners should stop using the ladders immediately and register for a free repair kit at Atticstairwayrecall.expertinquiry.com.
Affected Louisville models include AL228P, AL228PS, AL258P, AL258PS, AL300P, AL300PS, AL300I, AL300IS, AL300I‑60, AL300IS‑60, AL228I, AL228IS, AL258I and AL258IS. Featherlite models include FL228P, FL258P and FL300P. Lite models include LT228P, LT258P and LT300P. Century models include CE228P, CE258P and CE300P.
Model numbers are printed on the inside of the attic door.
